Discover a piece of the universe with meteorite NWA 14093! This fascinating mesosiderite comes from a meteorite body found in Northwest Africa. Purchased in 2016 and later classified as a mesosiderite. The total mass of the meteorite was approximately 12 kg and consisted of small rusty pieces weighing from a few mg to 4 g. This meteorite is one of 273 mesosiderites found to date.
This meteorite consists of a silicate fraction (56 % vol.) composed of pyroxene and plagioclase with a low Ca content and a typical grain size of 600 µm and of twisted multi-millimetre metal grains (16 % vol.) and their weathering products (27 % vol.). Kamacite predominates over taenite. Troilite and a siliceous polymorph are present.
Geochemistry: Fs31.6±2.3Wo6.5±1.3, FeO/MnO = 21.4±1.9 (n=6). Plagioclase An92.3±0.6Ab7.6±0.7Or0.1±0.1 (n=3).
